Official Lebanese policy has become more inclined to improve social and economic conditions for the Palestinian refugees, while at the same time maintaining staunch opposition to their permanent resettlement in the country. The establishment of the LPDC ushered in a new era in relations and turned the page over a difficult and painful past for which both Palestinians and Lebanese have paid a high price, according to the former president of the LPCD, Ambassador Khalil Mekkawi.
